Fellow Ice Cats:
We hope this message reaches you all happy and healthy!
While our spring hockey season was cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19, we are excited to share some great news during these trying times!
We began our search for a new Hockey Director / Head Varsity Coach to identify a leader who could elevate our program and our players, developing them as young adults and as hockey players as One Team.
We are extremely pleased to announce our new coaching staff:
Head Varsity Coach / Hockey Director – Joe Townsend
Joe has been with the IceCats Club since 2015 as a Varsity Assistant Coach and has been a tremendous asset to our program. He previously coached at Loyola Academy from 2007-2014. Joe is first and foremost a man of character and represents the type of leader who will elevate our club at every level. With an 18+ year coaching career, he brings a wealth of experience, relationships throughout AHAI and the ability to recruit new players to the program.
Assistant Varsity Coach – Tim Martin
Tim is a Libertyville resident that has been a student of the game since 1991. He played hockey at Lake Forest Academy, Suffolk University, and the University of Illinois, where he was a two-year captain. Tim’s philosophy is simple: build trust by getting to know the players, foster open communication, challenge players and hold them accountable.
2nd Assistant Varsity Coach – Andrew Walukonis
Andrew comes to us from the great state of Michigan, where he grew up playing hockey since 4 years old. He moved to Chicago upon graduating from MSU in 2013. The game of hockey has done so much for Andrew, he looks forward to giving back.
Head Junior Varsity Coach – Tommy Tambourine
Tommy has been a coach within our program for four years now. He was a three-time captain on the IceCats as a player. His high energy and tenacity to teach and lead by example will strongly contribute to our ‘One Team’ development.
Junior Varsity Assistant Coach / Player & Pipeline Development Lead – Drew Projansky
Drew has been coaching hockey since 1987. His passion for the game, infectious positivity and ability to teach make him a valuable asset to our organization. Drew comes to us most recently from the Chicago Young Americans Hockey Club, while also serving as the Lakers Club Hockey Director. In addition to player and pipeline development, Drew will also serve as a leadership mentor for our entire staff.
Junior Varsity 2nd Assistant Coach – Mike Baldino
Mike is a Libertyville High School graduate and four-year varsity player. Mike will be beginning his second season with our program this coming season. His enthusiasm, youthfulness and career as a teacher will serve our players well.
Skills Coach – Tommy Budreau
Tommy has been working with the IceCats for several years. He trains and develops hockey players for competition at a high level. He played high school hockey at Lake Forest Academy and college hockey for Robert Morris. Following college, Tommy played professionally for seven years in the ECHL, CHL, SPHL and EPHL.
Goalie Coach – Roy Perfetti Roy is the owner of P.A.D.S. Goaltending school. P.A.D.S. is one of Chicago's largest goaltending schools. We perform goalie Summer camps, clinics, private lessons, and will provide other goaltending services to cater to your specific needs. Our sessions stress position – angle – depth and speed. We cater to all ages and all levels of play. We interact with the goalies to help them work through game situations mentally and physically.
Be well all!
